Another Frugal Friday is here and we’ve got a fun and easy tip for you! Weekends can be budget buster time, so we try to plan free activities with our kids that they will enjoy. With a bit of luck, we won’t be bored to tears either. I am a fan of anything that pairs free with food. We’ve been members at Sam’s Club for a while and we’ve discovered that you can Eat Free at Sam’s Club With Free Samples! If you’ve ever been there on a Saturday around lunchtime, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Let me share the awesome variety of food samples we received on 2 separate trips recently. This is a perfect light lunch or snack and the kids love it!
A few weeks ago, Ryan forgot to pack his lunch for work, so he planned to stop by Sam’s Club to grab some pizza (which is already a SUPER cheap lunch idea) and household items like paper towels and toilet paper. When he showed up at Sam’s around 1pm on a Tuesday, he noticed there were several food sample demonstrations. He made a list of all the samples he got:
- Apple Pie
- Thick Bacon
- Cheese Stuffed Sausage
- Cherry Pie
- Apricot Pie
- BBQ Beef
- 7 Layer Bean Dip
- Oats & Chocolate Bar from the FreeOSK automated sample kiosk
Unbelievable, right?! Ryan was pretty much full after all the sampling and didn’t need to spend any money on lunch that day! We took the kids this past Saturday around 12:30pm and here’s a list of the food samples we received. They were fairly large samples:
- Organic Lemonade
- Cinnamon cookies with Tea/Lemonade
- Chicken Chimichanga
- Macaroni & Cheese
- Chicken Nuggets
- Chicken Cordon Bleu
- Pretzels with Cinnamon/Sugar and Salt
When to go: There’s no official word on when samples happen, but typically between 11:30-1:30 seems to be a popular sample time. We’ve had great luck on Saturdays, but Ryan was there on a Tuesday!
Do You Have to Make a Purchase? Nope. Even if you don’t plan to purchase anything I wouldn’t hesitate going–you paid a membership fee just to enter the door! They want you in the store regardless. They hope you’ll try a sample and love it so much, you’ll want to buy more. We rarely buy the sampled food, so don’t feel bad if you walk out empty-handed. If you do make purchases at Sam’s Club, I’d encourage you to make a list beforehand and stick to it. Whim purchases at a bulk store will bust your budget quickly.
And Just for Kicks: Our Sam’s Club has an automated FreeOSK sample dispenser by the entrance, which is a great way to score an additional free sample item with a quick swipe of your membership card. Did you notice that Ryan got a free Oats and Chocolate bar from this kiosk the day he forgot lunch? He saved it as a snack for later! When we visited with the kids, we got a free 2-pack of dishwasher detergent!
Happy Friday everyone!:-)
